Cocke County: Rankin Bottoms and vicinity
Observers: Leslie Gibbens, Don Miller, Michael Sledjeski, and five others whose

Highlights this morning while canoeing from Rankin Bridge to the coal tipple at
Rankin Bottoms and back--
Wood Duck (9)
Wild Turkey (4, in flooded trees at RB; unusual location)
Double-crested Cormorant (42)
Great Egret (2)
Little Blue Heron (immature, seen briefly in flight at Rankin Bridge)
Osprey (9--7 adults and 2 young in nest (total of 4 nests seen))
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-headed Woodpecker
Yellow-throated Vireo (3)
Warbling Vireo (3)
Cliff Swallow (326 seen; Michael reported that he and Leslie counted
approximately 1000 active nests a few days ago at Rankin Bridge)
Prairie Warbler
Prothonotary Warbler (44 - sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet)
Summer Tanager
Orchard Oriole (12)
Baltimore Oriole (2)
