[Bristol-Birds] Lisa Tyler nominated BBC President 2009-2010

Lisa Tyler, one of the region's
bright, new and energetic birders,
Tuesday night was nominated by
the Bristol Bird Club to serve as
President for 2009-2010.

Her nomination headed a list
presented by the BBC nominating
committee.

A resident of Johnson City, she
was named the region's 2008
"Best New Birder of the Year."
She has been one of the club's
most loyal members.

Other nominees for office included 1st V-P David Worley,
2nd V-P John Moyle, Secretary Diana Worley, Treasurer
Janice Martin, Asst. Treasurer Wilma Boy, Curator Wallace
 Coffey and Statistician Richard Lewis.

The BBC election will be held May 19. Newly-elected officers
take office at the club's annual picnic set for Saturday, June 20.

Wallace Coffey reported that The Nature Conservancy has
agreed to begin planning a 30th Anniversary celebration of
the organization's work in Shady Valley and its 30 years of
partnership in the valley with the Bristol Bird Club. BBC
members proposed the first project in the valley when, in
August 1979, it was successful in getting the Conservancy
to purchase the wild cranberry bog and to have it managed
by ETSU. The Conservancy also funded the club's 1999
book about bird study in Shady Valley.

Michelle Page, Children's Librarian at the Bristol Public Library,
was on hand and the BBC agreed to provide children's birding
walks as part of the library's 8-12 year old program. Club
member Michele Sparks will facilitate the bird walks for BBC
and the first will probably be Monday, June 11.

VS.-P John Moyle handed out a list of six birding activities for
which the club will be involved in until the end of May. The
weekend of May 29-31 to the Cumberland Plateau is a featured
event and arrangements for room accommodations are being made.

President Worley said plans are being finalized with the Natural
Tunnel State Park for BBC's annual birding weekend held for the
public at the park. It will be an overnight weekend with lodge
rooms available free to BBC members. More details will be
 coming soon.

Coffey mentioned a need to revise some of the articles of the
BBC constitution which has not been revisited since 1968.
Among the needs will be a more streamlined and modern approach.
It is suggested that all officers be elected by the membership. At
the present, some are provided for by the constitution but are
appointed. Action on the update will probably be one of the
 tasks for the newly-elected president.

Former president Bill Grigsby announced that arrangements for
the BBC Fun Fest field trips have been completed with Ward's
Seed of Kingsport again sponsoring our two festival bird walks.
Both are at Bays Mountain Park and will be held July 11 & 15.

A group of 30 birders was on hand to hear Doris Carson's
interesting talk on the "Birds of Midway Island."
