[Bristol-Birds] Lapland Longspur, etc. (Greene Co., TN)

December 1, 2006

Greene Co., TN

I adjusted my work schedule today to allow a little birding time in the western
end of the county. Despite high wind, I was able to locate a few things of
interest, the highlights of which were Lapland Longspur (2) and Horned Lark
(12).

The longspurs were in a dirt field along Highway 340 about three quarters of a
mile east of Flea Ridge Road. They were in almost the same spot where Linda
Northrop and I found three Lappies on November 22, 2003.

The larks were with a flock of Killdeer in a dirt field along Hartman's Chapel
Road two tenths of a mile from Old Midway Road. Interestingly, this is the
same field that has produced a singing male Horned Lark on at least two of the
recent Breeding Bird Surveys in Greene County.

I also found a Ruddy Duck along Guinn Drive on the western outskirts of
Greeneville.
