[bristol-birds] Kingsport hummer

I went to see the hummingbird in Kingsport today. Marion Walter was at home
and came out to talk with me. She was very gracious. She told me this is
the second year in a row she has had a hummingbird for the winter. She said
that both years the hummers arrived in mid October, and the bird last year
left at about this date. She also mentioned that she had seen the throat
patch flash orange. I never saw this myself the three times I observed the
bird come to the feeder. It always appeared olive green or just dark.
Knowing nothing about hummingbird identification, I was surprised at how
orangey the flanks (I call them wingpits) were. I arrived at 1pm and the
bird made appearances at 1:15, 1:45, and 2:00, perching the first time and
hovering the others. Its a beautiful bird, and a welcome sight in midwinter.
After seeing this, I plan on leaving a feeder up next winter.
