2/21/06 late afternoon highlights:
Double-crested Cormorant (5)
Great Blue Heron (7 in heronry)
American Wigeon (1 male)
Northern Shoveler (1 pair)
Gadwall (5)
American Kestrel (male) having dinner at the feeders
Ring-billed Gulls (100+)
Tree Swallows (first appearance last year 2/20/05)
Red-winged Blackbirds
2/18/06
Mike watched 2 Ospreys, one spent most of the daylight hours perched in a tree
in yard
(I was on a whirlwind four-day trip to NM for Rosy-finches)
Question: Have several NC birding friends who want to see the Red Crossbills at
Roan Mountain. Has anyone seen any lately? Anytime of the year better than
another?
