[Bristol-Birds] Horned Lark, Dickcissel, Northern Bobwhite, etc. (Greene Co., TN)

June 12, 2005

Don Holt and I spent a good portion of the day today birding numerous
sites in southern and western Greene County, and I added a couple of
hours in the eastern part of the county in the late afternoon and early
evening. Quite a few noteworthy species turned up, including fairly
high numbers of several:

Northern Bobwhite (18, at numerous sites);
Eurasian Collared-Dove (2, adjacent to West Greene High School);
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (6);
Red-headed Woodpecker (4, at 3 sites);
Horned Lark (Hartman's Chapel Road--only the second summer record I have
recorded for this species in Greene County);
Yellow-throated Vireo (2);
Blue Grosbeak (12);
Indigo Bunting (82);
Dickcissel (6, at 3 sites);
Chipping Sparrow (30);
Grasshopper Sparrow (14);
Orchard Oriole (19, including a pair at nest);
Baltimore Oriole (3, including a pair at nest on Green Road, female
feeding young).
