[Bristol-Birds] Highlands Festival Creeper Trail Bird Walk.

Area Birders:

I will lead the Creeper Trail Bird Walk Saturday, July 26 (this weekend),
at the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon. If any of you would like to
join in the fun, this is one of the first events of the festival and is a very
popular early-hour kickoff for those who are eager to get the festival
excitement underway.

We will walk off at 7:30 a.m. from the locomotive at the Abingdon Trailhead
about three or four blocks off Main Street on Green Spring Road. I have
been leading this trip for nearly 15 years. Two years ago we had 30
birders on the trip despite the fact it rained before and during the walk.
This is as much a celebration of this famous American festival as it is
a nice, early, bird walk.

For those of you who have never met the famous and renowned Abingdon
birder, Randy Smith, this is almost your only chance each year. He is
my sidekick, confidence builder, moral support and protector from the
massive birder crowd surges throughout the walk :-) Neither Randy nor myself
sign autographs during the bird walk. We do not poise for
photos except by prior appointment. Photos of Randy and I together
may be posed by your making a $25 per-digital-frame contribution to the
Bristol Bird Club. For photo ops with us, e-mail wallace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
by Thursday at midnight. We will only take the first 20 reservations.
Children and senior citizen rates are available upon request. No credit
cards, Fannie Mae or Fannie Mac lines of credit will be accepted.

We'll only be afoot a little over an hour. We do not walk far because we
are birding and talking a lot about birds and birding. This is not about
hiking.
The trail is wide, flat and easy. One very pregnant BBC member went the
distance one year. She returned the next year and went the route
with us carrying her binoculars, watching birds and pushing a baby stroller.

Below is a brief listing of the outdoors events for this year.

If you wish details for each, that is available at

Let's go birding.......rain or shine.
