HERNDON BIRD CLUB UP-COMING ACTIVITIES
Activities of this week (June 3-7)
NIGHTJAR SURVEYS
1. *Nightjar Survey #2 - Friday June 5th - Waldon Mt - meet at
McDonald's/BP
station outside Hampton at 8:30 PM - Max. 3 cars. Should also see blue
ghost fireflies - Joe McGuiness and Kim Stroud in charge
2. *Nightjar Survey #3 - Buffalo Mountain Sunday June 7th. Meet 8:30 PM
at
Cherokee School on Cherokee Rd. - Don Holt and Diane Draper in charge
SUMMER BIRD COUNT AND COMPILATION
The Club's Summer Bird Count will be held Saturday, June 6. Coount groups
meet at different times and places related to their count area.
Groups and areas are:
Kim Stroud, Don & Diane, Kathy & Eric-- Little Stoney Creek; Buck Mountain
Rick Knight, Gil, Mary Anna, Paul Bayes -- Elizabethton; town of Watauga
Tom MacNeil, Rob, Lisa -- Hampton; Watauga Lake; Walnut Mountain
Gary Wallace, Jean & Brookie, Bryan -- Little Wilbur; Stoney Creek; Holston
Mountain
Glen Eller, Roy, Jerry - Roan Mountain area; Ripshin
Anyone else interested in going should call Rick Knight (423) 483-4204 or the
individual group leaders if they know them
COMPILATION of the summer count - Sunday, June 7th Sycamore Shoals - 6:00 PM
Note, Nightjar Survey #3 will leave Sunday, June 7th from Cherokee School,
Cherokee Rd. Johnson City at 8:30 PM

*OWL TRIP: Unaka Mountain June 13 - Saturday - Meet at 6:00 PM at the
Forest Service Office in Unicoi - Exit 32 from RT 26, Turn left, office on the
right
Other species to see: Canada warbler, magnolia warbler
Kim and Joe suggested we make arrangements to eat at the Country Café on 107
- Limestone Cove. We will have more information by Friday, June 5. The cafe
can accommodate a limited number of diners (12-16), so sign-up for the dinner
before the trip will be needed and there will be a deadline for sign-up.

Club Picnic Friday, July 10. Meet at Rotary Park, Broadway in Johnson City
at 6 PM. Meat, drinks, plates, glasses, utensils and napkins will be provided
by the club. Participants should bring a side dish, salad, or desert to share.

In AUGUST, the club will have an informal planning meeting at Perkins
Restaurant in Johnson City. Meet at Perkins on North Roan St. at about 6:30 to
join other members for dinner and discussion. Order off the menu. The club
will not have a regular meeting or presentation program in August.
