Bristol Birders:
We are glad to have Chris O'Bryan on Bristol-Birds Net. He is the young
man I've told you about at the Bristol Bird Club meeting.
Yesterday he spent the day in the field with Andy Jones and myself, birding
at Whitetop Mountain, the Alder Flycatcher habitat at Whitetop Station and
hunting salamanders near Elk Garden. He found many Metcalf's Salamanders
and caught a snake and lenjoyed making digital photos. He has been in
the field with Tom Horsch and myself. He loves nature and is encouraged by
two caring parents who strive to see that he has opportunites to continue
that fascination.
We look forward to having Chris come into our fellowship of birders and
his becoming an important link in bird study in Shady Valley and elsewhere
in the region. He is a serious candidate to be in the next generation of
youth headed to academic biology.
When you see Chris and his big smile coming at you along a birding
trail, you should quickly put down your binoculars and books and make ready
to shake his hand because he will be reaching for yours -- he loves people.
Wallace Coffey
