The ornithology class at ETSU led by Dr. Alsop saw some nice birds at
Sycamore Shoals near Elizabethton, TN, this morning.
Highlights were a Yellow-crowned Night Heron in a tree, displaying. We
also found 2 Great Egrets in a large sycamore tree across the river,
at the far end of the Sycamore Shoals trails.
We saw a pair of Wood Ducks checking out a nesting cavity.
A few Northern Rough-winged Swallows were present as well.
We heard briefly a Chipping Sparrow sing, and a Purple Finch was also
still singing there.
