[Bristol-Birds] Great Blue Herons on Rookery in Bristol TN

Was driving home around 5:30 this afternoon and saw what I thought was a
kettle of turkey vultures. Turns out it was about 10 Great Blue Herons
circling to land in the rookery off Highway 11-W between the Toyota
dealership and Bristol Regional Medical Center. The cupped gull wings and
long legs became a give away that I had mis-cued on the vulture
identification.

First sighting, for me anyway, on the rookery nest was yesterday, March 3,
2011.

Mar 3,

I stopped by last night (Thur) at 7pm for a short visit....It didnt take
long to hear one bird up....and "twittering" to the ground, while 2 other
woodcocks were "peenting" on the ground.

Additionally, I had my FOS tree swallow at the Fish Hatchery Ponds (exit 15,
I-81) in Hamblen Co.

Been birdn?

> Shortly after dark this evening, I found at least four American Woodcocks
behind the old Italian Village Restaurant here in Greeneville (located along
North Rufe Taylor Road). The site has hosted woodcocks for at least eleven
consecutive years.
