Mike's very good photo made ID rather easy. Although the plumage coloration
and cocked tail were very similar to Ruddy Duck, the bill structure was quite
different. Ruddy has a very flat bill. Scoter bill structure is best
illustrated in a
sidebar in the "big Sibley" field guide.
