I thought birders would be interested in two observations Lorrie Shumate and
John Shumate made yesterday, Sun. Jan. 30, as they returned from Mountain City
heading north on U.S. 421 to Shady Valley in Johnson County, TN. There was
about 4"inches of snow on the ground.
About one mile from the top of Iron Mountain on the Mountain City side of the
ridge there was a Barred Owl sitting on a limb over the road.
As they traveled on up the mountain about a half-a-mile from the top of Iron
Mountain at the sharp turn back (still on the Mountain City side) there was a
Golden Eagle feeding on a deer carcass beside the road. They had great looks at
both birds.
Let's go birding.......
