[bristol-birds] Gnatcatcher, LA Waterthrush, Swift et al

Sunday, April 07, I finally got out in the field for the first time in
nearly a week. On the Betty Range cliffs on the Watauga River, Carter Co., I
heard and then saw my first Blue-gray Gnatcatcher of the year. The pond
behind St. John's Mill near Watauga yielded a male and a female Lesser Scaup.
Kevin Hamed and Wallace Coffey led a hike into Slagle Hollow in Steele
Creek Park, Bristol, TN from 2pm to 5pm. We heard a Blue-headed Vireo and a
Golden-crowned Kinglet, saw a Louisiana Waterthrush (another year first for
me) and flushed a Ruffed Grouse. On returning home, at twilight I saw two
Red-tailed Hawks circling over the hill before settling in to roost. One had
a very obviously full crop. Also, high above them, I spotted two Chimney
Swifts, again my first this season..
