Gilbert Derouen, Reece Jamerson and Bryan Stevens did some birding at Winged
Deer Park/Austin Springs, Johnson City, and St. John Pond, Watauga, from 11:30
a.m.-4 p.m. on Feb. 19.
We had 32 species. Some standouts included: 500+ Ring-billed Gulls, American
Pipits (3) and Wilson's Snipe (2) at Austin Springs), Eastern Towhee (10, all
males, in the only brush remaining near the waterfront at Winged Deer Park),
House Wren (1) and several raptors: Red-tailed Hawk (7), Cooper's Hawk (1),
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1), Turkey Vulture (13) and Black Vulture (13).

In Unicoi County, in Limestone Cove, Bryan Stevens found 11 Wild Turkeys on
his way home.

We'll be reporting our sightings to the Great Backyard Bird Count 2005, being
held through Monday.

Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
