The clouds parted and the weather was fine on Saturday morning. Twelve
people took part in the inaugural Beginners' Walk at Warrior's Path State
Park.
Bill Grigsby, Mary Erwin and John Moyle hosted nine "beginners" for a three
hour session including bird books, optics and field ID. The participants
included: Kay Ann Smith (Kingsport), Michele Sparks (Blountville), Paul and
Jamie
Aiello (Kingsport), Susan Evans (Johnson City), David and Nathaniel Hunt (Gray)
and Bryan and Heather Hogan (Jonesville, VA). Twenty-eight species were
identified including large numbers of Black and Turkey Vultures, Ring-billed
gulls,
Tree Swallows and Great Blue herons. Other interesting finds were Pied-billed
Grebe, several Yellow-rumped Warblers, beautiful looks at male Eastern Towhee
and Northern Flicker. Next Beginners' Walk will be at the Meadowview on
April 26. Next Field Trip will be Greene County on March 29 (Details will be
posted later this week). John Moyle Glen Alpine Road
