[Bristol-Birds] Friday morning hunting/birding

Area birders,

Friday morning found me set up next to a field hoping a coyote would hear
the mournful sounds of my rabbit distress call. I had called with no luck.
About 30 minutes into the stand, I see a gray figure on the other side of
the field come running at me. I look through the scope of my winchester
223wssm rifle to see that its a BIG bobcat. I never shot at him though,
since the season has expired for the year. That was a such a beautiful
animal. It looked so majestic sitting out on that hump in the field. Finally
after not seeing any proof of a hurt rabbit, he turned and left. That was
the first bobcat that I've ever called in. It was much more rewarding too,
because I called it in with one my my hand-made predator calls. Its a good
feeling to call an animal in with something you've made yourself.

The birding aspect of the morning was great as well. Despite being rainy and
a little cold, many birds were out. On the way to my stand, I seen two
turkeys beside the road. I couldnt tell if they were gobblers or hens. I
also saw three grouse. One was especially large and had a larger that usual
white patch on his wings and across his back. He sat in the road for a time
before he flew. Crows were out in numbers also. There wasn't a single time
in the morning when they were'nt cawing all around me. At a second setup, I
found a large flock of robins and starlings. It looked like a large smoke
cloud whenever they all flew up together. I estimate that there were at
least 200-300+. All the birds were singing as well. The cardinals, wrens,
phoebes , and sparrows were not to be outdone though. They were performing
as well. Altogether, this was a great morning. Considering the weather
conditions, it was excellent.
