I read Rick's posting just a few minutes after he sent it, arranged to get
off work a little early and ran right down to Dutch Bottoms. I found the
concentration of gulls just before the silos and looked for something
different.
First I found a LAUGHING GULL and 2 HERRING GULLS among the RING-BILLED GULLS.
A shotgun blast heard from across the lake then sent that group of gulls
flying off. They didn't return while I was there. A second small group of
gulls
was a little further upstream. It held the FRANKLIN'S GULL and 2 BONAPARTE'S
GULLS. There were very many birds all around the area, I didn't have time
before dark to scan everything I wanted to. I did find 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL , a
DUNLIN, and a FORSTER'S TERN among all the KILDEER, MALLARDS, DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, GREAT EGRETS, and GREAT BLUE HERONS.
