[Bristol-Birds] Elk Garden Report

The BBC field trip to Elk Garden/Corn Valley/ Clifton Farms was a great 
success.  In spite of a low wind chill temperature, we had a very good day.  
Participants were John Hay, Roy Knispel, Bill Grigsby, John Moyle, a new, young 
Virginia couple whose names I will report in my next email, and Tom Hunter, 
leader. Sightings:  Canada Goose, American Black Duck (4), Mallard, Lesser 
Scaup 
(1), Ruffed Grouse (heard only), Great Blue Heron (6), Black Vulture, 
Red-tailed 
Hawk, Golden Eagle (1), American Kestrel, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Eastern 
Screech Owl, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (1f), Downy 
Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker (1m), Loggerhead Shrike (1), Blue Jay, American 
Crow, 
Common Raven (approx. 12), Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, 
White-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper (1), Carolina Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 
(1), 
Eastern Bluebird, American Robin (many), Northern Mockingbird, European 
Starling 
(including one flock of a thousand or so), Cedar Waxwing (12 or so), 
Yellow-rumped Warbler (4), Field Sparrow, Fox Sparrow (1), Song Sparrow, 
White-throated 
Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow (approx. 20), Dark-eyed Junco, Northern 
Cardinal, 
American Goldfinch.

Neat field trip will be Saturday, February 7 to fabulous Burke's Garden, VA
