A quick scan thourgh the records I have available indicates that the two
Eared Grebes at South Holston Lake today establishes a new early fall date
for the species in the region. Could this be right ? Let me know if you
know of a previously reported (posted or published) earlier date.
Let's go birding....

Tennessee-Virginia stateline near Musick's Campground at South Holston Lake.
This is the first fall record for the region this year.

mouth of Spring Creek in Sullivan Co., TN just upstream from Musick's
Campground about 3 p.m.

from Tennessee into Washington Co., VA. One appeared to be the bird seen
earlier and the second was in non-breeding colors which would be a bit early
for birds molting to winter wear. We observed the birds at a distance of
about 150 feet with a scope.
