[Bristol-Birds] Douglas Lake

Cocke county, 9/6/08
We guided a group of birders led by John Moyle to a few shoreline
vantage points on Douglas Lake. Highlight of the trip was a close
view of a peregrine falcon in pursuit of a killdeer. The killdeer
demonstrated some impressive moves and was able to survive the
encounter.
Partial list of species seen:
Blue-winged teal
Great egret (many)
Osprey
Bald eagle
Red-tailed hawk
Peregrine falcon
Semipalmated plover
Greater yellowlegs
Lesser yellowlegs
Spotted sandpiper
Sanderling
Semipalmated sandpiper
Western sandpiper
Least sandpiper
Baird's? or White-rumped? sandpiper (We weren't able to make the
distinction in the field &
photos were inconclusive)
Pectoral sandpiper
Ring-billed gull
Caspian tern
