This morning, as the weather began to break following a nocturnal rain, I
observed twelve flyover Double-crested Cormorants in Greeneville--a group of
seven followed a few minutes later by a group of five. Greene County has very
little habitat suitable for cormorants, and I've never seen more than a small
handful of birds on or around the Nolichuckey River at one time before. It was
quite a treat to see the skies over town momentarily blossom with these lovely
birds.
