[Bristol-Birds] Clinch Mountain Results

In spite of the forecasts, the weather was fine for our Clinch
Mountain/Laurel bed Field Trip. We did have a couple of light showers, but
that was it. We
did see 54 species, though no Blue-winged or Golden-winged Warblers were
found due to a recent controlled burn of their habitat. However, the 54
species
did include some great and frequent looks at several good birds including:
Gadwall, Bufflehead, Common Loon, Ring-billed Gull, Great Blue Heron,
Double-crested Cormorant, Red-shouldered Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Hairy
Woodpecker, Least
Flycatcher (Che-bekking like crazy), Red-eyed Vireo, Veery, Wood Thrush, Gray
Catbird (many), Brown Thrasher, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler (many),
Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Palm Warbler,
Black-and-White Warbler, American Redstart (many), Ovenbird, Common
Yellowthroat,
Hooded Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, Scarlet Tanager, Dark-eyed junco,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (several), and Indigo Bunting (many). Eight people came
out
for the trip, and they were also treated to many of both Pink and White
Trillium, Purple Larkspur other wildflowers and lots of butterflies and
iridescent
blue-green tiger beetles. The river was magnificent with roaring falls and
spectacular rapids as they were lowering the lake level. Thanks for a great
trip go to trip leader, Dave Worley! Next BBC trip will be this coming weekend
at Natural Tunnel in Virginia. Bill Grigsby, the leader, will post times and
places. John Moyle Kingsport
