I'm back from the Galapagos Islands ......... amazing trip. However, I am
back into TN birds and the Great Backyard Bird Count. I travelled around from
the Holston River by the Netherland Inn to The Meadow View and our home on Glen
Alpine Road. In all, I had 54 species. Of particiular note were: the
spotted sandpiper continues at the Riverfront, my feeder has been mobbed by
chipping sparrows (actually since early January.... up to 23 at a time), 9
puple
finches on the feeders, as many as 30 goldfinches at a time on our feeders, 41
coots at the Kingsport Park on the Holston River, 2 red-winged blackbirds at
our
feeder area, 2 Wilson's snipe at the Meadow View, and one male sharp-shinned
hawk attacking our feeder birds. See you all at the Mad Greek tomorrow!
