After the Herndon TOS meeting at Milligan Tues. night, Reece Jamerson and I
went to the Patton-Simmons Cemetary on Toll Branch Road, where the
Chuck-wills-widow was heard about this time last year (thanks to insider
knowledge from Howard Langridge). We enjoyed the quiet evening sitting in
the dark and listening to strange sounds around the cemetary - Cope's Gray
Treefrogs, Spring Peepers, American Toads, and finally Chuck-wills-widows.
Whereas last year it was heard calling from the forest behind the cemetary,
this time it seemed to call while flying around the nearby homes, yards and
streetlights (- possibly feeding?).
