Carolyn and I had a chance to enjoy the Canvasback today at the
small pond about 250 yards NW of US 11E along Edgefield Road
near Piney Flats, which was found Sunday by Ellen Parker and
Michele Sparks. It is a beautiful male and allows close approach.
In the region, a Common Raven was perched in a tree just across
Boone Lake from Harbor Point Dr. about .5 miles NE of Rockingham
Marina. Some nice cliff faces are present near Harbor Point Dr.
Another raven was heard calling several times about 3 miles NNW
of this site near the intersection of Hamilton Rd. and Steadman Rd.
(just behind Tri-Cities Airport) in Sullivan Co.
Since many ravens are paired at this date and eggs will be laid
within weeks, both may be on territories.
Let's go birding . . .
