[Bristol-Birds] Cackling Geese in Washington County, TN

At apx. 11 AM Saturday, 1/8/05, I found 2 Cackling Geese, apparently
Richardson's form, with apx. 60 Canada Geese at Pickens Bridge Rd. and Crouch
Rd. in Washington County, TN. They were feeding in a cut corn field near the
intersection.
I had an enlightening phone conversation with Wallace Coffey as I studied the
birds. At apx. 11:30 AM the entire flock flew off toward Boring Chapel Rd. I
didn't relocate them.

Earlier, I saw a Red-tailed Hawk land on a suitable nest off of Pickens Bridge
Rd. in Sullivan County. It looked as though it was possibly feeding young. That
would be very early. By the time I set my scope on the nest, the bird had
flown. I stayed for about 10 minutes and it didn't return. I could see no signs
of nestlings. It is more likely the adult was inspecting or working on the nest.
