[Bristol-Birds] Buchanan County Bird Club Picnic and Warblers

Area Birders,
On Tuesday the 13th 17 BCBC members plus one guest gathered at the Enoch's
Branch Park near Grundy for a club picnic and birding outing.
Janice Martin's salsa dip and Michelle Talbott's spinach dip were both pre-meal
favorites, which dulled hunger pangs until the main food could be prepared.

Before eating, a birding hike was organized and soon birders were getting
looks at Golden-winged, Blue-winged, Hooded and Black-and-white Warblers along
the grassy trails that are part of a reclaimed strip site.

Chef Sheldon Woods soon had burgers and hot dogs sizzling on the grill, which
were quickly grabbed up by hungry birders returning from the hike.
After the meal the club presented a gift to club secretary/treasurer, Lynda
Mayhorn, for all her hard work in organizing and coordinating the recent VSO
annual meeting.

After sumptuous desserts prepared by many of the ladies of the club another
bird hike got underway. This one included numerous, singing Indigo Buntings,
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and ended with a Barred Owl calling from some distance
away, but owl caller, David Raines, soon had the bird coming in closer.
Everyone present had an enjoyable evening of good birding, good food and good
company.
