This afternoon, Linda Northrop and I made a whirlwind trip through
western Greene County, to Cherokee Lake and Dam (Jefferson and Grainger
Counties), on to Douglas Lake and Dam (Jefferson and Sevier Counties),
and then to Rankin Wildlife Management Area (Cocke County). We hit many
dead spots along the way but also struck gold at quite a few stops.
Here's a quick summary:

Pied-billed Grebe (2 on Cherokee Lake in Grainger Co.);
Great Blue Heron (38--22 on Sevier Dam tailwaters, 7 in Grainger Co., 5
in Jefferson Co., 3 in Greene Co., 1 in Cocke Co.);
Black-crowned Night-Heron (9 on the Grainger County shore of Cherokee
Dam tailwaters);
American Wigeon (3 at Rankin Wildlife Management Area);
Northern Harrier (in Greene Co.);
Cooper's Hawk (2--1 in Greene Co., 1 in Hamblen Co.);
Wild Turkey (98 in Greene Co.);
Wilson's Snipe (2 in Greene Co.);
Bonaparte's Gull (8 on Cherokee Lake at Grainger County Park);
Ring-billed Gull (477+--219+ in Jefferson Co., 145+ in Greene Co., 109
in Grainger Co., 4 in Sevier Co.);
Eurasian Collared-Dove (6 adjacent to West Greene High School in Greene
Co.);
American Pipit (32 at Rankin Wildlife Management Area);
Palm Warbler (in parking area at Cherokee Dam tailwaters);
Chipping Sparrow (25 in Jefferson Co.);
Rusty Blackbird (61 on Green Road in Greene Co.);
Brewer's Blackbird (30+ at intersection of Highway 340 and Turner Lane
in Greene Co.--a very high number for this species).
