[Bristol-Birds] Black bear destorying feeders in Bristol Virginia

Area Birders:

The Bristol Virginia Police answered their second complaint call in a week
Saturday
morning to a neighbor complaining about a Black Bear destroying a bird feeder in
a residential yard. The critter has been frequenting Brookdale Cr., which is on
the ridge behind State Street United Methodist Church and not far from Shoney's
on
the Lee Hwy.

In late June 2006, Bristol Tennessee residents had the same problem on
Cloudland
Drive on the ridge just three doors up from my house,

A Black Bear was seen in Steele Creek Park in recent weeks.

Bears living in or frequenting urban neighborhoods has become a growing trend in
recent years. Sullivan County, north of U.S. 421 Hwy along Holston Mountain,
is part
of a state managed two-county bear reserve in the Cherokee National Forest. The
population in that area is growing significantly.

Let's go birding.....
