Reece Jamerson, Gil Derouen, and I spent the morning birding the ponds and
fields of southwestern Washington County, TN. Some examples of what we
observed are:
Bush Hog Pond
Spotted Sandpiper
Killdeer
Phoebes
Indigo Buntings (at least 5)
Pond at the junction of Kyker and Shanks Roads
Green Heron (2)
Killdeer
Spotted Sandpiper
O.J. Campbell Rd/Clark Rd
Hairy Woodpecker
Blue Grosbeak
Westview Pond
Killdeer (2)
Barn Swallow (20)
Tree Swallow (3)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow (4)
Smithdale Blvd./Keebler Lane near Limestone
Red-tailed Hawk
Kestrel
Eurasian Collared Dove (3)
In addition, we saw three Loggerhead Shrikes
one just north of Bush Hog Pond, where Precision Blvd. meets Slate Hill
Road
one on Slate Hill Road not far west of where Don Carson Rd. meets Slate
Hill Road
one on O.J. Campbell Road between Clark Road and Washington College
Station Road
We did not see any shorebirds other than the Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers
and we did not see any Red-headed Woodpeckers along Stockton Rd. west of
Philadelphia.
