I spent two hours this morning (05/09) at Bays Mountain. At 0800, I was at the Eastman facility for an hour and the only birds of interest were a displying tom Turkey and a Louisianna Waterthrush working a stream bank. I then went to the Center and walked south of the dam. After a slow start, in spite of six bus loads of elementary school age kids, I hit a small knot of migrants including Veery, Blackburnian Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Ovenbird and Scarlet Tanager, and I could hear Ravens calling down-slope. On my return walk to the Center, I watched a Ruby-crowned Hummingbird collecting seed-fluff from an old cattail. By the Center, before leaving, I had a pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and a singing Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Later in the day at home, I had a beautiful male Rose-breasted Grosbeak feeding at my sunflower-seed feeder for 5 to 10 minutes. John Moyle Glen Alpine Road Kingsport Sullivan County
