I finally got back to Cherokee Dam in Jefferson Co. TN Sat. (6-14) and checked
on a bald eagle nest I had first observed in April. I did see 2 adults and 1
immature flying, then when I circled closer there was an adult and an immature
on the nest. The nest can be observed below the dam, if you turn in the boat
ramp access road then look behind you, accross Hwy. 92 and a field you can see
the nest in the top of the pines on the ridge between two houses. I have
driven to the houses, turning opposite the dam campground entrance and bear
right at the next intersection (sorry I can't remember the road name). You can
see the nest easily from the road in front of the houses. This appears to be
same one on a recent Ch.10 Heartland series( one about first airplane to land
in Knoxville?). Pretty neat to see if you are in the area.

Mike Hagy (Abingdon, VA) and I saw two Bald Eagles at Hidden Valley Lake this
morning (May 29) while conducting a Birds in Forested Landscapes (BFL) survey.
One appeared to be an immature bird, while the other appeared to be a
first-year adult. Hidden Valley Lake is located on Brumley Mountain, Washington
County, VA. (Hidden Valley WMA).
The BFL is a "Citizen Science" project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The
purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of forest fragmentation on the
breeding habits of birds deemed of "conservation importance." There are 24
species on the eastern forest habitats list (e.g. Sharp-shinned Hawk,
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Wood Thrush, Cerulean Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher,
Hooded Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Veery, Canada Warbler--just to
name a few)
