[Bristol-Birds] BBC member new Recording Secretary for AOU

Dr. Andy Jones, who grew up in Kingsport and is a member of the Bristol Bird 
Club, is the new 
Recording Secretary of the American Ornithologists' Union.  He will serve in 
the capacity 
for a three-year term beginning this month. His duties will include keeping a 
record of the 
meetings of the AOU and of its governing 
bodies and distributing minutes and 
proceedings of the meetings.

The first official annual meeting he will 
be responsible for is the 126th meeting 
held Aug. 4-8, 2008 in Portland, Oregon. 
It will be a joint meeting with the Cooper 
Ornithological Society and the Society 
of Canadian Ornithologists.
 
He has attended and presented papers 
at the AOU scientific sessions in previous 
years.

the oldest and largest organization 
in the New World devoted to the scientific study of birds. Although the AOU 
primarily is a 
professional organization, its membership of about 4,000 includes many amateurs 
dedicated 
to the advancement of ornithological science.

Andy is a moderator of Bristol Birds Net and the TN-Birds Net.  He regularly 
participates 
in the four Christmas Bird Counts sponsored by the BBC. He has been on counts 
with the club
for nearly 15 years.

He is a former naturalist at Steele Creek Park Nature Center in Bristol. Andy 
is the William A. 
and Nancy R. Klamm Endowed Chair of Ornithology and Head of Department of 
Ornithology at the 
Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland, OH.
