At the request of BBC President Dave Worley,
I have spent two days scouting a future meeting
place for the club, now that the ETSU -Bristol
Center will no longer be available.
I suppose most of you saw in the news that the
governor's budget cuts have forced the university
to move out of the present ETSU-Bristol
Center by the first of the year. Some classes
will be retained and probably moved to other
sites but that would not provide space for BBC.
We will move the BBC meetings to a new
location beginning with the January 2009
meeting.
The photo above is the new Bristol Public
Library located just one block from the main
street of Bristol and nearly within sight of
US 11E as you drive in from Johnson City
or Abingdon.
We have now reserved the third Tuesday's of
the month for the next year. We will have free
use of the facility because we are a local 501c3
non-profit group.
This is one of the important matters to be discussed
at our Thursday night planning meeting. It will
eventually need the approval of the membership.
We will meet at ETSU-Bristol Campus for our
November meeting next Tuesday.
The library is just 2.5 miles north of the ETSU
Bristol Center and one block off the same street
after you cross into Virginia at the stateline.
Parking will be in this large area with great
sidewalks and extensive, bright, lighting
for security and safety. We will enter at the
white door just to the right of the large, round
flower box on the walkup pad.
The outside entrance room to the Meeting Room
is shown above and is a private entrance leading
into the hallway below which is not in use by
usual library visitors.
The doorways at the end of the hall leads directly into
the meeting room. The meeting room is under the library
rotunda and has large glass floor to ceiling windows.
We will have up to 60 padded and upholstered seats,
indirect lighting as needed, a built in overhead digital
projector, computer on site, a kitchenette with an outside
entrance from the hallway and serving area into the room.
The floor is carpeted and the lighting set up for best uses
in image projection. A built in screen is in place. We will
have all of the tables we'll need.
In the hallway photo shown above, you will see a row of
windows along the left wall. This is a large conference
room which will be available as needed by BBC for
planning meetings, work groups, etc. Handicapped
access is available every step and every door, including
the very modern and clean restrooms located just a
few feet from our meeting room door just down the hall.
Directly across the city parking lot in front of the library
is the construction of the very popular Macado's
Restaurant which is so well loved by students at
Appalachian State University and on King Street in
Boone, NC. It will be available for our dinners in 2009.

The Bristol Public Library offers the Bristol Bird Club
much promise but we still have details we will need to
discuss Thursday night at the planning meeting.
Let's go birding.......
