Saturday, October 8th from 8 AM until 2 PM, more or less.
From your direction, come up I-81 to the exit for TN 394 at Blountville
(probably the first exit for the Bristol Motor Speedway). Go east on 394
(right) about 10 miles to US 421. Take a right at the traffic light. Stay
on 421 for 20 miles to Shady Valley. The primary intersection is easily
identified by several market/gas station/restaurant enterprises, one of
which sports a silo. We often "meet at the silo" which usually means
inside the restaurant. From this intersection, turn left onto TN Rt. 133,
Quarry Bog is located on Tn Rt. 133 8/10 of a mile from the valley's main
crossroads in the direction of Damascus, Va. and Backbone Rock. This is
just 1/2 mile north of Shady Valley School on the left. You will notice a
massive oak tree on the left (same side as school) and your turn into the
lane and our group can be found gathered at the end of the lane at the edge
of the Quarry Bog Preserve property We will be at Quarry Bog at 8 AM.
We will leave sometime late morning to visit the Dickey Preserve. Some may
leave to view/ride in the parade or to get lunch. You can bring your own
picnic lunch or partake in the goodies available at the Ruritan booth at
Shady Valley Elementary School grounds. More info on the Festival
below. The following link is from the Nature Conservancy re the bogs in

The Shady Valley Cranberry Festival is a festival celebrating the unusual
natural history of Tennessee's highest cove valley and existing for the
benefit of historic Shady Valley Elementary School and the community of
Shady Valley, Tennessee. The natural history of the valley includes
naturally occurring cranberry and sphagnum bogs and other northern plant
varieties left from the last Ice Age. These relics of a colder climate
continue to reside in this valley in part because of its elevation and
topography. The Shady Valley School has its own distinct history. It is
built on 1938 under the Work Projects administration. Being constructed by
valley residents of field stone and local chestnut lumber. The building has
its own roots in native materials and workmanship. It continues to this day
to house classes for about 70 pupils in grade K through 6.
