Venue for Bristol Bird Club Annual Banquet
Will be Special for the Group's Membership.
Lloyd Jones' beautiful and convenient church in Bristol Tennessee
will be a pleasant visit for many birders. He was an environmental
staff member with the Virginia Department of Transportation when
he was active with the BBC. Mostly he reviewed road projects
and worked on environmental impact statements.
He left the BBC in the late 1990's to attend classes at
Duke University as he began preparation for the ministry. Lloyd
had earned his degree in biology and ecological studies while in
Alaska.
He began the ministry serving two small Bristol area churches
and came to Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church this
past June from Centenary United Methodist Church in Erwin, TN.
During his first year in the pulpit, he had a two-point charge which
included serving Weaver Union Church and Paperville United Methodist
Church near Bristol Tennessee.
The right Rev. Lloyd J. Jones was the spiritual leader of the
Bristol Bird Club and, for four years, the treasurer of BBC
(March 1993-Aug 1997). The guy who pulled our finances
together and put us on the road to sound financial management.
He was a member of our club from April 17, 1991 until August
1997.
Lloyd first came to the Bristol Bird Club, when we were
meeting in the conference room of the Bristol Herald Courier.
During the next six and one-half years he quickly became one of our
most beloved and enjoyable members.
He was also aboard his brother's float boat at South Holston Lake
in the Spring Creek Embayment with other members of the BBC field trip
that historic evening when the first Eared Grebe was discovered there
Sunday, Oct. 2, 1994. It is the rarest bird found on a BBC field trip
during the club's 58-year history. Lloyd got credit for being the first to
get the identity and also credit for the excellent photo made within 50 feet.
You all know the history of that species at Musick's Campground during
the 14 or 15 winters since.
Lloyd and his wife were special surprise guests of the club in Dec. 2005
when they attended the BBC Annual Christmas Party at Mike Poe's
home near Tri-Cities Airport. He is a friend of Mike's.
It is especially nice that he has made arrangements to have our
banquet this September in the fellowship facility of his church. The
meal will be prepared by ladies of the church. Much thanks to Lloyd.
Let's go birding . . .
