American Bittern - at the edge of reed bed at upper end of our cove - what a
find!
We watched bird for about 30 minutes - what a view! Bird drifting slowly into
tall reeds in the fading daylight.
The long-striped neck and dark malar plainly evident
Other highlights from the lake this evening:
Pied-billed Grebes - 8-10
Double-crested Cormorants - 30
Great Blue Heron - didn't count tonight - I was preoccupied
Canada Geese
Wood Duck - 4
Mallards
Gadwall - 1
Blue-winged Teal - 4
Green-winged Teal - 2
Redhead - 4
Lesser Scaup - 4
Ring-necked Duck - 2
American Coots - 30+
Tree Swallows - 100s
Eastern Phoebes - 4 (I believe they may nest under the dock)
Cedar Waxwings
