David Kirschke (from Johnson City) and I birded a little over two hours this
evening at Wal-Mart Distribution Center (WMDC) and nearby areas in western
Greene County. Highlights were:
Wood Duck (8 on Green Road)
Gadwall (10)
Blue-winged Teal (16)
Northern Shoveler (4 on Gravel Woods Road)
Green-winged Teal (12)
Ring-necked Duck (32 on Gravel Woods Road)
American Bittern (seen at WMDC, third pond)
Cooper's Hawk (at WMDC)
Virginia Rail (heard at WMDC, third pond)
Greater Yellowlegs (heard at WMDC)
Wilson's Snipe (2 at WMDC)
Eurasian Collared-Dove (on Highway 348 adjacent to West Greene High School)
Purple Martin (2 at WMDC)
Tree Swallow (2 at WMDC)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow (12 at WMDC)
Brown Thrasher
Savannah Sparrow (6 at WMDC)
Rusty Blackbird (5 on Gravel Woods Road)
