Last Wednesday, 21 SEP 2005, at Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greene County, TN,
the camp dog flushed a Virginia Rail in our wetland. That's the same dog that
in recent years has also helped me find a Sedge Wren. Actually, this time he
had some help unnerving the Rail, as there was also a Mink working the area.
Other migrant birds at the camp Wednesday and throughout the week were Eastern
Wood Pewee, Common Yellowthroat, Palm Warbler, and Pine Warbler.
Today, Monday, 26 SEP 2005, we were blessed with appearances by a
Chestnut-sided Warbler, American Redstart, Magnolia Warbler, Bay-breasted
Warbler, and a Gray-cheeked Thrush.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are still present in force here, with several
coming to feeders, and a small army working the Jewelweed in the wetland. In
the last couple of years, they have departed by the last of September. I've
been watching for Selasphorus species, but so far no such luck.
