BIRDS OF NORTHEAST TENNESSEE UPDATE ----

It is now 2:00 a.m. and Rick Knight has turned in and gone to rest his eyes
and body after working all day on the final details and editing requirements.
He had his duties with the new book done by midnight and got a jump on
the sandman.

When morning comes Rick will put the finishing editing consideration on getting
the index checked carefully. His ability to prowl every word and every line
for species spelling and punctuation is incredible. It takes a robot to make
the corrections as fast as he can find them. All the while flashing emails with
long lists of needs such as names, locations, dates, corrections, etc.

At this hour, Wallace Coffey has finished his task of running down a few
loose ends. We have had some real problems with the exact date and who
the photographer was for some historic photos. Rob Biller joined the hunting
party in late afternoon as we poured over files on several computers, dug
through old photo files, searched the Bristol Bird Club newsletter "THE EAGLE"
for any break. Ron Carrico got into the search. I last saw him on line at
midnight. He had managed to get to a date. We then knew he had taken
photos but we couldn't put him at that location with the subjects in the photo.
Midnight and Coffey discovered the final pieces of the puzzle in a Sept. 1996
old Valley Birds Net post. The hunt was over by 12:30 a.m. Thanks Rob, for
hanging in there and pushing hard.

Mike Poe has worked into the wee hours of the morning for two nights running
and then went to his day job. I last talked to him by telephone sometime
after 1 a.m. and he was taking a break to get a glass of milk. A little later I
saw his last email message asking about how to make a reference. Mike has
spent three days getting all of the graphic elements as perfectly balanced and
placed as possible. All the time working over long lists of corrections and
suggestions from Knight and myself. Twice today we were on the phone to
go thru 128 pages together to get the alignments up to snuff.

His last deadline with the printer comes today at 4 p.m.

At 8 p.m. Michele Sparks had arrived home from a long and tiring day of school
teaching -- fighting all those uphill battles trying to get 5th graders underway
with their school year. We talked four maybe 40 minutes about all of the
needed circulation procedures and timing and who will do what, when and where.
She has that end of it quickly coming under significant control.

At 9:30 p.m. Janice Martin and I conferred on plans for the reception, space,
setup and food being prepared by club members.

It is 2:08 a.m. and I am turning in. I bet Mike Poe is still going at this
hour.

Carolyn has a doctor's appointment at 9 a.m. so miles to go and we must get up
early and help her get underway and assure we make that appointment.

Let's go birding someday.......
