Alex,
People who use braille displays can read ASCII braille by simply
turninng off Grade 2 translation. In Jaws this is easy. I have used it
to read files that have already been translated. Of course, for speech
ASCII braille would sound like a horrible mess. But people who use
braille displays, as I do, will like it.
At the moment I can't remember all the reasons for making BrailleBlaster
an independent project. One of them was not to force people who just
want a translation package to put up with all the overhead of MSWord or
Open Office. The people at ViewPlus Technologies will probably give you
other reasons when they return to work on Monday.
