I wish people would put the number in the series if it appears in one. For example third or whatever. I realize that some series books don't have numbers

I agree. Even if a category were put on the book and nothing else, it would help. For example, for the John Sandford books, if one put Lucas Davenport police mystery, that would help. One could do better, but that would at least give some description.
