You don't need to calculate. I know for sure that Microsoft Word and K1000 will tell you exactly how many characters and words are in any file. I would hope that OpenBook could do the same, but I don't actually know.

It is not true that it says 200 words and not 200 characters on the submission form. I have cut and pasted the exact notice for the short synopsis here:

Enter a brief synopsis of this book, 200 characters or less.

The notice for the long synopsis reads as follows:

Enter a suggested longer synopsis about the book, less than 500 words.

*smile* Thanks! I now calculate...every word counts as ten characters...no matter what! The confusing thing on the form was that it said 200 "WORDS" and not 200 "characters". They might have to change the wording a bit.

Way to go! I'm glad it all worked out for you. It can be so frustrating when that happens! Now, when I submit any books, I put the synopsis I plan to use in Word and trim it until the word count shows me the character count is under 200. Take care.
