Before retiring I worked in the ESL department of a
middle school. We had a lot of Iranian and Korean
kids, as well, of course, kids from Central America,
including Belize, and some from the Philippines. Quite
often when I summoned a child for testing I was
expecting a male and got a female instead, and vice
versa. Plus, when I was in the counseling office
working with files and kids came in for one thing or
another, I mistook a boy for a girl or vice versa. In
6h and 7th gradesm, it's not always easy to tell by
body shape which is a boy and which a girl, and when
girls had their hair cut short and boys wore their
hair long...too easy to make a mistake. grin
