HI, Cindy. I really don't think there's anything wrong with sending messages to the list where we discuss things that can be approved on. It's nice to get other people's opinions on things we may think could make Bookshare better, and in the end, that's something we all want. If it's an important issue, though, it really does need to be taken up with Bookshare directly, because, as you stated, no one on this list can do anything about it directly. We can share ideas. We can talk about ways to improve the site. But it's important to remember the real purpose of this list, and it's important to remember that what we discuss here may or may not reach the people who can really change anything about it. Take care. Julie Morales Life is a gift from God. What we do with it is our gift to Him. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx> To: <bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, January 23, 2006 3:20 AM Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Re: Html filtering programs? Monica, I think Shannon was reacting to the tone of Karen's posts rather than to the content. Karen hasn't been around long enough to know that Jake isn't bookshare or an employee of bookshare but was merely responding to explain and be helpful, as always. When it seemed that Karen was criticizing Jake as equivalent to bookshare, Shannon, no doubt like many of us, were offended on his behalf. Jake probably shouldn't have reponded, especially the second time, but perhaps should have informed K that her complaints or suggestions should be addressed to gustavo.g@xxxxxxxxxxxx, or janice.c at benetech.org, or, as it says on the volunteer home page, volunteers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This list isn't the place to post all those suggestions because we cana't do anything about it. And gustavo or janice could explain to Karen what is what and why and what is being done. Of course, no one explained that to Karen. I must say, though, that I didn't care much for the tone in which she answered your post, either. But sometimes very nice people have a way of writing that is rather "uppity" or critical without their really meaning to. One of our regulars, a very nice person, had a somewhat "difficult" or critical tone to posts, but has become aware of it and has tried to change. Karen, I don't mean to talk about you as if you aren't here and reading this, but since I'm replying to Monica it comes out that way. Basically, this list is a place where people can ask for help from each other and receive it; post what they're submitting so others who are interested can know to download the book; post what's added to the collection (there's no point in posting what's been approved and uploaded because sometimes it takes so long to get into the collection--something that has been discussed over and over and bookshare is aware of); and can share personal comments to congratulate or encourage each other or whatever. Suggestions or complaints of the kind you are making should not be posted here, where they won't do any good, but should be sent directly to the people and addresses I've given above.
