I have a vr stream which I use for both bookshare and NLS material. Since NLS
is a talking book it is much like but better then the old cassette books.
I download Analog from their which, as far as I know, is not available anywhere
else.
Bookshare has a lot more material and certainly there is duplication, but there
is the human voice.
90 percent of my reading comes either from bookshare or Baen Books, but nothing
beats the human voice.

Subject: [bookshare-discuss] Semi-OT: How does NLS DTB content compare to
Bookshare content?

  Hi All,

I'm not, by any means, trying to start a discussion of which is better. Even
though I use Web-Braille, Bookshare is, and will continue to be, my primary
resource for accessible books. I'm always up for having access to as many books
as possible, which of course involves multiple sources, so I'm thinking about
the idea of purchasing a Victor Reader Stream to be able to access NLS DAISY
content. I'm not at all sure about this yet, and am investigating whether it
would be worth it for me to do so. I'm trying to decide whether NLS access is
worth it now. I know there are some Stream users on this list, and some of you
probably access the NLS digital download site? If so, how does the collection
of NLS material compare to that on Bookshare? I know that Bookshare has more
material, and I know that new stuff gets added to both sources regularly,
though it seems that, from what I've read, Bookshare adds new content more
frequently than does NLS. Do you find that most of the books that you, the
Stream users who download from NLS, download from NLS also appear on Bookshare,
or is there a significant difference in the material that NLS has available? I
know that magazines are on the NLS site, but it seems that all of these
magazines are also put up on Web-Braille as BRF files; are any magazines
produced in DTB that are not made available in BRF? I don't mind scanning a
book I want to read (and of course submitting it to the site to share) that is
not already available on Bookshare, and like I said, Bookshare will definitely
remain my primary source of the two for several reasons, but if there's a
significant amount of difference in the material available from the two sites,
I just might be convinced that it's worth it to find a way to access the NLS
DTB site now. Thanks lots for any thoughts.

  Regards,
  Maria
