As I validate and get ideas, I write both sort and long synopses. Occasionally, however, I have had your experience, Lissi, and found that the submitter had already written excellent synopses. I've just discarded mine in that case. Sometimes, though, I've found that the submitter hadn't read the book; the synopsis really had nothing to do with the book, or not much. In one case the main character was described as "he" when it was "she." A different situation arose recently when the synopsis was taken from a publisher's review and was more evaluative than summarizing plot. I understand we're not supposed to include our opinions of the book in the synopses. G.Cindy > Recently I proved there can be too much of a good > thing.
