Hey all a lot has been happening to me in the past 72 hours and it is good news yet moving at the same time and there is a story behind all of what's yet to com which is the best that is yet to come shortly if you all will be very patient with me because I'm overwhelmed with mixed feelings right about now, wish I didn't say no, but I had to for obvious reasons, so anyway here is the story behind what is to come. Not many people know this but I do have Facebook and have joined a smooth jazz group and I'll look up the title soon and tell you who are all on facebook what it is and then you can join if you wish, and anyway, we were all talking about the favorite radio stations of ours which disappeared from the radiowaves not too long ago, so we substitute with web sites so the subject of what our favorite musicians were came up and I of course mentioned trumpeter Chris Botti. Told them I tried to go to one of his concerts but it was expensive in the SF Bay Area and I'm from Concord California so it is a bit of a stretch well worth it, but for $120 a seat, yikes, the highest dollar amount was $420, so I didn't go and had wished to get in contact with him and said in my negative way that was wishful thinking and loe and behold, the group founder wrote me off list and told me to write his email address so he can give it to Alto/Soprano/Tenor saxophonist and used to be a baritone saxophonist who hosts his own show on TV and on radio, Dave Koz, and I said shut up, he wouldn't give it to Chris, and sure enough, he did and said that what I had wrote was very sweet and the once it is out of his hands it will be in Chris's. So, what I wrote was: Hello Chris Botti, My name is Chela Robles, Chela pronounced chayla ch sounds like chocolate e makes the A sound like in the word Cake spelled with only one l. I'm a totally blind trumpeter fan of yours and have thus far collected 8 of your albums. Wow! I don't read music and my Embouchure is off to the right side, sure it could be corrected, however, I had a vaccine shot for Chicken pox and it gave me a slight bells palsy so can only play on the right side of my mouth. Anyway, I've got a picture of me playing. It is not recent but it will do. I've got a BachStrad a silver one and use a 5C mouthpiece. After I try to learn Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring," a bebop tune which I am being quite negative about this so slap me! I'm Not going to be able to learn this tune fast that is for sure, don't know how the beboppers did it, but they sure got my head spinnin'. Wish I could somehow come across a slower version than the one I got. I'm wanting to eventually learn several songs you did. I know three thus far: "When I Fall In Love," "What'll I Do," and "Embraceable You." I really want to learn "One For My Baby and One More For The Road" after I master "Joy Spring." I like the one you did with blind tenor operatic singer, Andrea Bocelli, "Italia" and thought it was amazing how you both held that note at the end of the song forever! My dad said that you had stopped playing when he was watching the video of you and Andrea performing at his concert in Tuscany Italy, and I didn't believe him because I heard you hold it for a long time, thought you were going to burst, the words oh my Gosh were screaming through my head when I thought of that. Amazing! I really like one of several quotes you said and it is appended to my signature and I take it to heart and try to put it to good use too. Feel free to write me if you have time and if you wish. I also cited you in an essay I wrote for an English class assignment which I got an "'A'" on so hope you don't mind. Hopefully, I can make it to your concert in the SF Bay Area this year since I live in Northern California and hopefully I won't be too late to buy tickets. Well, I'm sorry I'm not at the Dave Koz Cruise but if you do perform, don't break a leg or bust your chops and blame it on Chela, so just have a great time and wish you a safe travel back home and tell Dave hello for me and that his sax sounds sexy. Bye for now, Blind Trumpeter Fan Chela Robles -------------------------------- "To me, music that breaks your heart is the music that stays with you forever. You want the sophistication to lie in the purity of the sound, the beauty of the arrangements, and the quality of the performances."-Trumpeter Chris Botti -------------------------------- Chela Robles E-Mail: cdrobles693@xxxxxxxxx Well, sure enough, got an email the next day, yesterday to be exact, saying the following which I shared with the group founder of the smooth jazz group on Facebook who shared it with Dave Koz which was posted to the group as a whole which then gave everyone the notion to prod poor Chela who is still forever buried in email, Lord help me with this one, then I wrote a note to update everyone on Facebook who is my friend. Here is the email that was sent to me yesterday: Hi Chela, I work with Chris Botti's management company. Chris asked me to extend an invite to you to attend his upcoming show in San Francisco on June 3, 2010. I can offer you (2) tickets and a chance to meet Chris before the show. The show is scheduled to start at 8PM at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. I know Chris is scheduled to do a Meet and Greet with PBS donors so probably between that and the start of the show. I'd have to wait until closer to the show date to figure that all out but figure if you get there 30 minutes before show time I think you'd be fine. The two tickets will be free. If you could let me know in the next month or so if you could make it that would be great. We hope you will be able to attend. Here is why I had to turn it down. > Hey bad news and tell Chris Botti this too, it is not going to work > out afterall, was just told my sisters have a concert since they > are in Voena (Voices Of Eve N Angels), a youth/children's choir > which is professional and does travel throughout the world, has a > concert that day and also are going to be going to New York in July > so sorry it can't work out this time. Maybe next time, Chris?I'm > really sorry and I bet you are disappointed about this, well, > you're not the only one, ok, so here's a little something for you > to keep and hopefully we can stay in touch via email or Skype which > is free and is better, though I don't mind just email either. See > attached an mp3 and forgive the quality of the sound, I don't have > professional recording software so am using what I have and I'm > getting over a cold too so pardon my voice. I hope you like it? I'm > quite nervous. > Write me back ok, Chris? Again, my humblest apologies and many > thanks for this offer, perhaps next time? Send me an email perhaps > 3 months in advance? Also see the essay I cited you in you'll like it! > Keep Smiling, your friend/blind trumpeter Chela Robles > PS. YOU SHOULD GET A FACEBOOK SO WE CAN CONNECT! Well, Here is the response I got. Hey Chela, I'm so sorry to hear you can't make it. I'll pass this note on to Chris for you. Chris is always playing in the Bay Area so hopefully we'll stay in touch and maybe next time we can work something out. All the best and thanks for your support, Archie But this is what is so cool. In a nutshell: Well, ever heard of Chris Botti? Chris Botti is a trumpeter and I had an interesting way of communicating with him. Well anyway, he had invited me through email to attend his concert at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco but I had to turn it down because my sisters have a concert that day which is June 3rd. My dad's birthday is the 5th. So didn't want to take my chances. So he was sad and disappointed but glad to know I still support him and that I also support my family first and that he'd do anything for me, another fellow trumpeter. Sweet, huh? Wish he could be my reader for anatomy when I take my massage training once I get everything squared away with DOR but dream on, right? I know, he is really nice, don't know what the other fans I've read reviews about him were thinking when they said he was rude. He wants to help me and once I told him I'm like Andrea Bocelli the blind guy and that I play trumpet, he must have thought of asking me, to come. I still wonder why he wanted me, though. I'm an amateur trumpet player who plays by ear. I'll be 25 years old April 6th. I'm sad I can't go to Chris's concert too. Well, I told him a song I wanted to learn after I learn a bebop tune by trumpeter Clifford Brown which is fast and I can't seem to find a slower recording of it, would like to learn from Chris Botti himself how to play "One For My Baby And One More For The Road" but perhaps I can ask him to record it, that one song with only trumpet at a slower tempo and send it to me via email. I sent him a recording of my playing trumpet called Desafinado and sent him a paper I wrote for English class which I cited him in and a photo of me playing trumpet too. Well, going to sleep it off now. I hope this friendship will continue somehow, hope he can get Skype and Facebook too. Good Night All and now you know why I was really quiet Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday a lot to take in in such a short time I know. -------------------------------- "To me, music that breaks your heart is the music that stays with you forever.
