I agree -- NLS was the best show in town for many years, and still produces
a superior product.  Their recordings are great, but the medium of tape is
flawed, and there is no way to get around that.

I think NLS has since the 90s done a much better job of expanding their
collection in a rounded way -- I was often surprised by some of the titles
that would appear, and often with relative alacrity.

But there is no question that no one can beat a service like book, where a
book that came out today, can, with a little effort, be available within
days -- even the same day in some extraordinary cases like Harry Potter.
